How to Get to Saffron City Fire Red Step by Step
Saffron City is a major hub in Pokémon FireRed, housing both the Psychic-type Gym and the sprawling Silph Co. headquarters. However, when trainers first try to enter this central metropolis, they find all four entry gates completely blocked by thirsty guards. Overcoming this barrier is a necessary checkpoint to progress your Kanto adventure and claim your next badges.
Obtaining the Key Item in Celadon City
To bypass the gate security, you must first navigate to Celadon City, located directly west of Saffron City. Once you arrive, head over to the tall building known as the Celadon Mansion or Celadon Condominiums. Inside the first floor, you will find an elderly lady sitting at a table near the back of the room.
Speak with this lady, and she will graciously hand you a Key Item called Tea. This specific item is essential for satisfying the guards who are blocking the entryways. Without this item in your inventory, the city boundaries will remain permanently locked down to travelers.
Bypassing the Thirsty Guards
With the warm beverage secured, make your way toward any of the four gatehouses that surround the central city. You can approach from the northern route below Cerulean City, the southern path from Vermilion City, or the east and west exits. Approach the lone guard standing inside the checkpoint building and initiate a brief conversation.
The guard will automatically notice that you are carrying the soothing liquid and will ask to share some. After a quick cutscene, he will happily drink the beverage and share it with the other gatehouses across the region. This simple interaction opens all four gates permanently, giving you unrestricted access to the urban center.
Exploring the Streets of Saffron City
Once you step past the threshold, you will immediately notice a heavy Team Rocket presence patrolling the paved streets. Your main objective in this massive settlement is to infiltrate the towering Silph Co. skyscraper and clear out the villainous syndicate. Completing this difficult task will reward you with the legendary Master Ball and clear the city paths.
Before taking on the main corporate building, you can also test your skill at the Fighting Dojo located next to the primary Gym. Defeating the master of this optional training facility allows you to choose between Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan for your team roster. After liberating the local citizens, you can finally challenge Sabrina at the official Saffron Gym.
